Lucky Strike (BAT/The Devil) ran one of its last (legal) activations and briefed us to engage their art/urban segment in an interactive/creative experience. To answer the brief The Supreme Guardian Council conceptualized The Concrete Jungle and mistranslated it into Afrikaans as Beton oerwoud. We thought it was funny. We briefed interdisciplinary teams to collaborate with us. Our collaborators (mixologists, photographers, stylists, makeup artists, chefs, musicians/DJs, designers, landscapers) were all asked to interpret Beton oerwoud in their medium. The result was a derelict floor of an inner-city building transformed into a jungle, replete with taxidermy animals. The guests were turned into models: dressed, makeuped, styled and then shot. Was it ethical? Probably not. But we needed the money; and we had fun with the big budget.
WITH KERRY FRIEND, LOUISE BREDENKAMP, MARK SHOUL
THE SUPREME GUARDIAN COUNCIL
